Socratic Seminar - Oedipus Rex: World History to 1500
Name of Assignment: Socratic Seminar - Oedipus Rex Subject: World History to 1500 Facilitator/Teacher: Professor Horowitz
We read Oedipus Rex then discussed it over the course of a week. Then we wrote a reflection on the discussion. The 21st Century Skill I think this assignment addresses is civic literacy and engagement because the discussion required facilitating a conversation with your peers (even when they don't respond) and use it in your reflection on a political topic. I am most proud of the reflection I wrote in this assignment. I improved my civic literacy and engagement skills with this project by working with my colleagues despite their unresponsiveness. The most difficult part of this task was trying to work in a discussion when I responded to all of their posts but not mine, which didn't give me enough information for my reflection. If I could start this project over, I would pick a different topic where I could talk to more partners. This relates to what I've learned in past Socratic seminars and history classes, in order to entertain a meaningful discussion that helps my classmates with their reflection and me with mine. I can apply this to future learning by improving my ability to intake information output it in future conferences.
